Your child is going to spend more than half the day sleeping on their mattress in all likelihood. You want to make a non-toxic choice here and there are some good options. And keep in mind that all these companies are making products from bassinet to king size if you are looking to update your own bedding as well.

We love all that Naturepedic has to offer. Their products are proudly made in the USA, mostly organic and they have eliminated the need for harmful flame retardants in mattresses through the use of superior materials. They have a full line of organic mattresses starting at bassinet size
Lifekind
Lifekind is another great option when looking for nontoxic mattresses and bedding. All their items are crafted in their eco-factory in Northern California and I have yet to see one that is not organic. They have a variety of crib mattresses

My final recommendation for bedding is Holy Lamb Organics. This company is making the most beautiful and comfortable organic wool and cotton bedding right here in America.
